8 Makeup Essentials for an Effortless Look

While we Asian ladies love going all out on makeup, we do appreciate the low maintenance days. Getting that natural ‘no makeup’ look is a trend on the rise, and Asian ladies are taking the lead.

While we are all for skincare, sometimes we just need that extra oomph from makeup to highlight our best features. So here’s 8 products that you should have in your makeup bag to achieve that blemish free look!

Brow Pencil, to sculpt your brows like Michelangelo

A brow pencil is a must have to make your brows look fuller. A good brow pencil should make your brows look natural and be easy to use. One of our top picks is Etude House’s Drawing Eyebrow. It works great and it’s super affordable! Another MVP is the cult classic Brow Wiz by Anastasia Beverly Hills. It glides on perfectly and gives you the most natural looking brows. Ladies who like precision or a bolder brow can opt for Arch Brow Micro Sculpting Pencil by Hourglass, which has an angled tip.

Brow Gel, to make sure dem brows stay on all day

What’s the point of sculpting your brows to perfection if it can’t stay on all day? That’s where brow gel comes in. Brow gel is also the go to for lazy days where you want to look effortless without actually putting in the effort. Our all time favourite is Glossier’s Boy Brow. It holds your brow in place while giving them a natural tint! A recent (and belated) find of ours is Charlotte Tilbury’s Legendary Brows. We love its micro-brush, it ensures zero clumpiness!

False Lashes, for the ABG in you

Instantly gain that ABG look by sticking on some falsies, whether you’re going to a rave or just want to glo up for your next trip to the supermarket (you do you, girl!). A well-loved brand is Eylure, and we especially like their Naturals No. 003 Accent Lashes! While these falsies give that extra impact for your eyes, it’s subtle enough for everyday wear. Versatility!

Mascara, for when you don’t have time for falsies

Let’s face it, it’s impossible to put on falsies everyday. No to worry though, because a lash lifting mascara is the perfect solution. A much raved about one is Benefit Cosmetics’ Roller Lash Curling Mascara. The curl this mascara gives is long lasting, a must try if you haven’t yet! Another one we’d go for is the Mote Mascara in ‘Micro’ by Japanese brand Flowfushi. This mascara has a micro wand, which is perfect for curling your lower lashes and the inner corners of your eyes.

Concealer, so you can conceal that you slept late (again)

We really do need some coverage for those dark circles and the occasional breakouts. A good concealer is the answer! Our top recommendations are no brainers: NARS’ Radiant Creamy Concealer and Tarte’s Shape Tape Concealer. Both these products have been bestsellers for years, and it’s not hard to see why. They are easy to blend and feel light on your face, while erasing away any blemish that you want gone. These two concealers are absolute champions!

Cream Blush, so you can look like ‘rosy-fingered Dawn’

Blush acts as a mini contour by bringing colour to the center of your cheeks. Cream blush is the formula to go for because it gives the most colour payoff! Our tried and trusted pick is Glossier’s Cloud Paint. The shade ‘Beam’ is a peachy coral that seamlessly colours your cheeks. For ladies who want an extra boost of colour, try Last Looks Cream Blush in shade ‘Peony’! Made by organic brand Juice Beauty, this berry pink blush will give your cheeks a rosy hue!

A Good Lip Balm, because chapped lips ain’t a good look

Putting matte and cream lipsticks on chapped lips is really not a good look. That’s why you need a good lip balm to keep them smooth all day! Being the Glossier fan that we are, Balm Dotcom is our pick. Another contender is Milk Makeup’s KUSH Lip Balm. The formula is super nourishing and comes in tinted shades! If you want to splurge, the Nº 28 Lip Treatment Oil by Hourglass is the one to go for. It works wonders on chapped lips (and it comes with a gold plated tip)!

An All Day Lipstick, because one should be enough

One lipstick should be enough to carry your look from day to night, right? One more lipstick in your purse is one too many. So here are our faves! Pony Effect’s Enamelic Glossy Lip in ‘Icy Rose’ is a cool muted rose shade that you can wear all day, guaranteed! If a warm brown gloss is more your thing, Colourpop’s Ultra Glossy Lip in ‘fudg’d’ is a good choice. It goes with any outfit! For ladies who like a matte lipstick or a red lip, try M.A.C’s Powder Kiss Lipstick in ‘Devoted to Chili’. It’s a beautiful brick red shade that lightens your complexion!
