They say the higher the heel, the closer to God – and while some may turn a blind eye as commonly synonymous with regret and discomfort, some heels are definitely worth the notoriety. But long gone are the days where only sky-high stilettos were considered feminine and sexy, we’ve come a long way through experimenting with different heights, platform, accents and accessories in creating the most fashionable shoe.
Although much of our glamourous plans and events has been cancelled with the pandemic, we believe 2020 has been a great year for shoes as we are loving most, if not all, the latest heel trends. Even if you can’t strut the streets this season who says you can’t do some major online shopping damage of some of the most chic and fashionable heels in the comfort of your own home. Let’s face it, we could all use some retail therapy!
Love them or hate them, but there is no denying how unbelievably comfortable kitten heels are compared to stilettos. While they never really got out of style, they’ve made a huge comeback since the 90’s when A-list celebrities and even royals such as Audrey Hepburn and Princess Diana rocked the micro heel trends. Likewise, we’ve been seeing more kitten heels in 2020 S/S runways from the likes of Dior J’adior Sling back Pumps to Christian Louboutin’s iconic 55m heel height. Kitten heels makes it perfect for office wear and even looks casual with some jeans.
The biggest breakthrough in footwear in 2019 to 2020 has got to be the square toe platform. There’s something about them that boasts craftmanship despite having a very basic and simple design. While they were once considered controversial, we have all come to embrace the square toe trend as more mid-tier luxury brands such as By Far and Staud have made it a common sight on the market. Simultaneously, high tier brands like Bottega Vanetta, Alexander Wang and Prada have implemented this style on their designs too. Visually, it may not be something we are too accustomed to but these shoes will definitely catch any passersby eyes.
Nothing says summer like a pair of platform Espadrilles. Perfect for a bohemian look on the beach or when you’re out running errands – it’s a summer staple for chill casual day. Forget what we said earlier about kitten heels being comfortable, if you’re looking for height and comfort, platform Espadrilles are the way to go. These classic style makes a comeback every summer season and there is no going wrong with how you can style them.
We’ll be seeing a lot of chain accents this year, not just this summer season but also for the upcoming F/W season too. And we’ve already been seeing them all over the fashion industry, from chunky chain necklaces to chain belts! We especially love this trend in heels as it makes a statement that is not too loud but also subtle enough to go unnoticed. The size of the chain can help you choose between emphasizing the bold or the feminine depending on your whole outfit. Like ankle chains, they look delicate and can help soften your look – but granted, they’ll be less of a hassle as they are built into the shoe design.
When different shaped heels first hit the market, we were all left a bit confused. Personally, it was a bit too kitsch for our liking. But with more and more brands implementing it onto their designs, now brands feel a bit left out if they don’t have crazy innovative shoe heel. This trend is a great way to spice up your look even with simple and casual pieces. Try sticking with basic fashion pieces and pop some crazy heels and you have a not-so-basic, basic look that would really make your shoes stand out.
If you haven’t already heard of the leather quilt trend that has been popularized by Bottega Venetta yet, you’ve got a long road ahead of you in keeping track of what’s up and coming in the fashion industry. Resulted from the brands new creative director Daniel Lee, the brand has epitomized the leather quilt trend and celebrities and fashionistas just can’t get enough of it. All the fashion people from Hailey Bieber to Rihanna has been spotted walking casually in their neighborhood while sporting this comfortable chic look. I mean just look at how incredibly comfortable these shoes look, you’re practically walking on clouds.
Strappy heels, laces or what we call gladiators types has been all over this summer seasons. Often times made of leather for their durability, the thing we love most about this design are their versatility. You can tie the straps just up to your ankle to make your legs look elongated – perfect to match with long trousers, or you can tie the laces up to your mid-calve inspired by the gladiator look. When paired with a short sundress or even a formal suit dress its guaranteed your legs will be the center of attention!
