Nailing the Perfect Athleisure Look

Nailing the athleisure look is as easy and effortless as putting any other look together. The main tip about getting the athleisure look is that the pieces you get should integrate perfectly with the rest of your wardrobe. Athleisure is all about mixing function with fashion! By blending fashion pieces like jeans or heels with activewear such as joggers, wraps, cute crop tops, and stylish leggings, you’ll create an athleisure look that’s not just for the gym.

Athleisure is great for showing off those curves, especially if you’re incorporating high-performance fabric into an on-trend look for a trendy juxtaposition. Just like any other clothing, invest in pieces that are both chic and comfortable! With so many brands designing clothes with the athleisure lover in mind and at various price points, the possibilities are pretty much endless.

Leggings are the true athleisure staple! We all know they’re perfect for your usual workout or yoga sesh, but the right pair can also keep you comfy and stylish on the go! From running errands to a fun night out, you can even wear some styles to work (yes, really!). With so many options out there, you’ll need to find a pair that actually feels comfortable, looks good, and holds up.

When you shop for leggings, pay close attention to the materials and overall construction. We’d suggest you to go for a pair made with synthetics like nylon or polyester as they’re usually moisture-wicking, more durable and opaque, and are stretchier than cotton.

Jogger Pants

Joggers are classic athleisure fare, and for damn good reason. They’re stretchy and go with just about everything. These breathable bad boys are so soft you’ll never want to take them off—and that’s totally okay. They’re loose but perfectly give off that “just looking fabulous while running a quick errand, nbd” vibe.

Show your legs some love by wearing these comfy pants out and about this year. Get yourself a pair with bold stripes down the side for an old-school look this season. They add a pop of color when you turn to the side. And obviously, it’s always a plus when they help slay your mirror selfie game.

Biker Shorts

It’s time to rock the bike shorts like our moms used to in the 1990s! Grab a pair with some length — it’s more fashion-forward, and since the shorts don’t go all the way down to your ankles (obviously; ’tis the nature of shorts), it makes navigating shoe selection so much easier.

Leggings and heeled sandals? Most likely no. Bike shorts and heeled sandals? Kind of great. Wear with an oversized hoodie or with a pretty white blouse, and you’re good to go. Believe it or not, these shorts can be fashionable if they’re worn right!

Sports Bra

Once damned to the eternity of practical workout wear, the old cost-effective gym standby has swiftly become a high-fashion favorite for millennials. Our lifestyles are becoming more multi-dimensional, we need bras that are multi-dimensional as well. Designers are becoming more and more creative with the strap designs of sports bras, so aside from wearing them for your workouts, they can also double as comfy bralettes!

This summer, try giving your back some much needed ventilation by pairing a backless or mesh top with sports bras that have cool straps! They are perfect as an outfit when worn with high-waisted shorts or pants with a blazer.

Mesh Tops

Ultra-bold, fresh and totally on trend this summer—we’re getting straight up heart-eyes for mesh shirts. This season incorporates a lot of loose vests and short sleeve tees in translucent mesh with zip detailing, as well as standard cotton versions with cut-out geometric mesh panels.

Need we mention it’s been proven that interesting visual effects are possible by layering mesh with other more dominant fabrics, with the combination of adding depth and movement to an ensemble.

Crop Tops

The fashion world welcomed the crop back with open arms, and now the fitness biz is doing the very same thing. Not a sports bra and not quite long enough to be a tank, this shirt’s sweet spot is right in the middle and conveniently flatters your favorite high-waisted yoga pants. You can go to brunch with your friends by styling it with a blinged up choker, denim miniskirt and PVC heels.

Or, you can wear it to the pilates studios or even at home with capri leggings, flip flops and a low ponytail. But if the athleisure movement has taught us anything, workout clothes should be worn in and outside of the spin studio, so these cute crops have potential in both departments.

Oversized Sweatshirts

From crewnecks to cool prints, a graphic sweatshirt is a simple way to incorporate some interest into an otherwise standard outfit—not to mention it makes for a great conversation starter. Wear one with a pair of sleek leggings while you’re running from coffee to yoga and top it off with a puffer jacket for the cooler days.

Or, if you’re feeling a bit of spring fever, dress one up with a midi skirt and kitten heels. You can also wear a sweatshirt over cut off shorts for a relaxed look. Due to its boxy silhouette, it can hide a booze bloat flawlessly. Ready to take your athleisure style game to the next level?
