While 2020 hasn’t been what most of us expected, the trends live on. Sure, many of us will only be sporting cute fall and winter jackets when we trek to the grocery store or go on a masked outing with family and friends, but the 2020 jacket trends are too gorgeous to ignore.

So even though we may not be wearing them quite yet, you can start putting together outfits now. Thinking ahead is never a bad idea—especially when it’s planning seriously adorable fall looks. By the time the temperatures cool down, you’ll be ready with an arsenal full of chic outfits ready to wear.

All of the 2020 jacket trends aren’t just fall and winter appropriate, they’re also so flippin’ cute. Whether you like to wear statement pieces that stand out in a crowd (LOL, remember those?) or jackets that easily pair with half of your wardrobe, you won’t be disappointed with our picks.

To help get you started (You’re welcome!), we rounded up some ideas on how to wear seven of the oh-so-cool 2020 jacket trends this fall.

1. Belted Jackets

Cinch that waist, baby. Belted jackets are so in, and you’ll be amazed at how many easy ways you can style them. When it’s still too hot outside to wear a million layers, you can add a thin cami underneath one of these jackets and then belt it at the waist.

No one will even know you aren’t wearing much underneath. Alternatively, you can pair a belted jacket with your favorite lightweight turtleneck and leave it open for a different look. The versatility, though!

2. The Boyfriend Blazer

If you’ve never been totally clear on what a boyfriend blazer is, it’s simple: Remember the days when your chivalrous date would lend you his jacket on a chilly evening? That’s the one! It’s slightly oversized, soft and slouchy, but not baggy, and it has a relaxed look and feel. A jacket like this has sleeves that you can scrunch up or roll up to show off the sleeve lining.

The boyfriend blazer is one of the most versatile jackets you’ll ever have in your wardrobe, because it can be worn so many different ways. Pair it with ripped jeans for a more casual look, bike shorts if it’s still sweltering outside or match it to trousers for an extremely cool suit vibe.

3. Leather Jacket

Fall and leather jackets have been inseparable since the beginning of time, and this year is no exception. One can never really have enough leather jackets in her wardrobe, as they can literally be worn with everything. Just pair with your favourite t-shirt and jeans for a more casual look or complement tailored pants to feel more polished.

4. Fur Coats

Whether real or faux, fur effuses glamour and cosiness like nothing else. This trend can be summed up in five words: Go big or go home. It’s not an understatement to say that fur coats are huge this season, and pretty much in every way you can think of – whether that’s to do with the shape, the length or just the colour.

And yes, you can pair it with the pyjama pants trend in public. A fur coat can also be worn over a floral dress for a chic romantic look. Add a beret to give the look that extra je ne sais quoi. There’s something about wearing this textured staple that is just, to put it simply, fun. Blame it on the nature of fur—not only will it be the cosiest jacket to wear all season long, but it’ll also dress up your outfits in mere minutes. Talk about a win-win.

5. Trench Coats

Versatile, practical and lightweight to layer, the best trench coats are more than transitional heroes: they’ll see you through almost every situation! The trench coathas been en vogue for over a century. And, despite being created for military purposes back in 1912, its appeal has lasted through decades of different dress codes.

Thrown over everything from jeans and a top to slinky evening dresses, its functionality immediately translates to effortlessness (a look more coveted than any It bag). The wardrobe staple hasn’t changed much in that time which means you can still find heavy cotton-gabardine numbers with the trademark storms flaps, buckles and belting everywhere!

6. Puffer Jackets

These puffer jackets are filled with responsibly sourced goose down and made with a water-repellent fabric and engineered to provide warmth down to -20°F. They’re the perfect marriage of function and design!

The general styling consensus among the fashion crowd appears to be that a sporty/feminine mash-up is the way to go when it comes to successfully rocking a puffer coat. Balancing it with items like high boots, vinyl pencil skirts, floral frocks and sleek pumps give the puffer a decidedly sophisticated spin — and the fashion cred it never had previously.

7. Bomber Jackets

Let’s just face it, Fashion never sleeps. As you all know, bomber jackets have a sporty and casual look, but now you can wear them to create a chic and feminine vibe. This year designers have created ladylike styles with a sporty ease. We are about to see must-have chic bombers that can be a good alternative to your chic blazers and classic coats.

For instance, you can go for a solid colour bomber and style it with a corset top and high-rise pencil skirt. Or you can try on a graphic or floral print bomber and style it with a matching colour fit-and-flare sleeveless dress. If you want to show-off your eclectic and expressive style, then it can be easily done with a cool bomber jacket.
