If you’ve been staying in the know in everything lifestyle, the recent rise of CBD won’t faze you. From CBD infused coffee to even CBD oil massage, there seems to be no stopping of this recent obsession. While we may just about think that we know everything about this chemical, turns out there’s a lot we don’t know about CBD. To give us more comprehensive insights on the benefits of CBD and to debunk any common misconceptions, we talked to Elda da Cunha Jain, founder of Recanto Wellness Concept to tell us more about this mystical natural remedy.
Nana Asia: What is CBD?
Elda da Cunha Jain: CBD is leading the wave of a new wellness frontier. Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a natural, non-intoxicating extract from the hemp plant. It helps balance our body’s endocannabinoid system, which is linked to stress, pain and inflammation.
CBD has been a key part of Chinese medicine for centuries. Today, it is commonly used to assist with anxiety, stress, insomnia, pain and inflammation. CBD is a new frontier of wellness. It is plant-based, completely natural and highly effective in delivering its health benefits. There is mounting scientific research which supports these use cases. For anyone living in a high-stress society, CBD is a holistic and natural potential aid in rebalancing the body and mind.
Nana Asia: Can you debunk any common misconceptions about CBD?
Elda da Cunha Jain: CBD is non-intoxicating and when used in moderation should not make the individual feel drowsy or hinder their ability to drive. However, given that everyone reacts differently to CBD, we therefore recommend starting with a low dose serving and proceeding with caution if you are new to CBD. Once you have become accustomed to low dose CBD, we then recommend looking to increase the dosage in increments.
Nana Asia: What are the benefits people can expect after using CBD oil?
Elda da Cunha Jain: CBD can be used for a variety of outcomes and as a result is agnostic in how it fits into someone’s routine. Whether you’re incorporating it into your morning coffee to reduce caffeine jitteriness or as a post-work out recovery tool, its use case varies. That being said, a significant proportion of people look to CBD as a way to promote sleep which is why we developed products that combine CBD with melatonin or botanical blends.
In 2018, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) removed CBD from its prohibited substances list, which means that professional athletes can now take it without worrying about the legal implications. CBD appears to be very effective in post-training and post-game recovery by reducing pain – including musculoskeletal pain and inflammation – and improving sleep. It is a natural and non-addictive potential alternative to pain relief and recovery.
Nana Asia: How did you come across CBD as a source of well-being?
Elda da Cunha Jain: When I was exploring the idea of opening a wellness space such as Recanto, a number of friends suggested I look into CBD treatments to further differentiate the customer experience and product offering.
I carried out market research including speaking to professional healthcare providers and wellness specialists and I reached the conclusion that if it is offered correctly and monitored, it can be a great offering for customers and help with many problems encountered by busy people in today’s hectic world.
Nana Asia: How does CBD enhance the massage experience at Recanto?
Elda da Cunha Jain: I found during our research that there is a subset of people who specifically embrace the CBD massage experience and I have found that has helped differentiate Recanto from many other wellness centres. We have customers who specifically come to us for the CBD experience and others who have come for a regular treatment and then expanded to the CBD experience.
